“Most people make the mistake of thinking that design is what it looks like (…) That’s not what we think design is. It’s not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works“. Steve JOBS, New York TIMES, 2003
STUDIO CARDS was born out of a particular passion and interest in Design: that of movement, mobility, and the graphic hybridization of the cursive and the rectilinear.
The word DESIGN itself is already an expression of this symbiosis. Its etymology comes from Old French, precisely from the word “desseing“, i.e. the added contraction of the terms “dessin” and “dessein“.
Today, we know that “Design” characterises the creative part which, in the conception of an object (or systems of objects), ensures coherence between the technical requirements of manufacture, the internal structure of the object, its value in use and its appearance. [1]
In our modern era, this “discipline aims at a harmonisation of the human environment, from the design of everyday objects to urban planning.” [2]
STUDIO CARDS: THE GENESIS OF A COMPANY WITH AN INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION
The Founder and Design Director at STUDIO CARDS is Julien RAMSAMY, who together with his team J.KASUMBA, M.NOURI and M-A.DURAND, created a joint-stock company oriented towards automotive design. Prior to Studio CARDS, Julien obtained his degree in Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Automotive Design from the UK at Swansea University (2008), and has diversified his technical and imaginative mastery with an impressive international CV, that includes Land Rover in UK, Serenity Design in France, Ecoplast Technology in Belgium, Pioneer Design and GreenCo in Saudi Arabia, and Mureza in South Africa.
These comprehensive experiences in various parts of the world ultimately inspired Julien (and his team J.KASUMBA, M.NOURI and M-A.DURAND) to craft his own business with an opportunity to lead operations at all stages, aspire to higher standards, as well as work closer with clients to deliver more tailored projects and solutions.
One of the aims of STUDIO CARDS, is to make the concept of design more accessible and create a flexible and enjoyable client experience, hence making the structured journey of “your creative and technical solution” even richer. This is why the values of Innovation, Collaboration, Flexibility, Eco-design and Respect are so prevalent at STUDIO CARDS.
STUDIO CARDS: HOW DOES YOUR PROJECT FORMULATION WORK?
Like many competitors, at STUDIO CARDS we take care of the Research, Definition, Ideation and Iteration, if necessary. We provide the screening and selection of the ideas you submit, the Prototype and typically the Prototyping Strategy (Scrum, etc.).
Our added value is, all things being equal, however different. Under the aegis of CEO RAMSAMY, we work on “extracting the essence of the client’s idea by exploring it extensively”. We collect a wealth of information by sectorising it. Adaptation to your needs and/or preferences is constant in our studio, which is plastically flexible.
Our core business and our specificity is to structure a prototype that is always original.
From the input to the output of the creation process, the SAS CARDS entrepreneur develops the following approach. Every being is intrinsically a system. You are then a system according to the project. STUDIO CARDS examines your project by considering it and translating it into a new system in itself. The theme of your idea guides us in its authentic architecture!
Let’s summarise the strength of our value proposition, which is at the intersection of art, craft and design science, with the graphic below:
THE ENCOUNTER BETWEEN YOUR INNATE USER EXPERIENCE AND OUR ACQUIRED EXPERT KNOWLEDGE
Your experience is your perception and feeling as an individual using a system in the context of human-computer interaction.
Even when your preferences and needs collide, we are excited to take on the enchanting challenge of your project. And this contributes to our mission to “become a pillar of the creative design standard in mobility solutions“.
